ok i can now see the problem:
the page redirects once, a popup is blocked, but then the page redirects
again.
since the page redirects again, the popup blocked message disappears and we
can't
easily recover that popup
this might be a flaw in the popup blocker
if the navigation isn't user initiated, maybe the popup blocked message
shouldn't
disappear?
