New issue 22900 by rotmer: Downloads get cached and disk thrashing occurs
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=22900

Chrome Version : 4.0.213.0 (26961)
OS + version : gentoo ~amd64
CPU architecture (32-bit / 64-bit): 64
window manager : openbox

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start downloading
http://mirror.yandex.ru/mirrors/ftp.videolan.org/vlc/1.0.2/vlc-
1.0.2.tar.bz2
2.
3.

What is the expected result?
Just download that file to the default location i set in the options.

What happens instead?
It is downloading right to the default location ~/dl i specified in the
options. But also it is for some reason downloading another copy to file
like ~/.cache/chromium/Cache/f_000284. Thats wouldn't bother me maybe much,
but after ~2Mb of downloading disk thrashing starts, you know.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot
and backtrace if possible.
Mounting ~/.cache to tmpfs helps, but thats not a solution.. Also --disk-
cache-size=1 helps, but this is also not that good. I expected --media-
cache-size=1 to help, but it is not..

By the way - disk thrashing also occurs when you watch videos on youtube.

So - is there a way to turn off that duplication of downloads to cache ? Or
how to deal with that disk thrashing ?
