I am experiencing this issue several times a day. When sound is lost, it is lost on the entire system. I tested this by clicking the volume in the bottom right hand near the clock. It usually makes a ding after clicking. I can get sound back by restarting the Windows Audio Service. This returns sound to the system including internet explorer. Sound does not return to chrome. All instances of chromes need to be killed and then a new instance launched before sound plays from chrome.
