Comment #1 on issue 12876 by antoine.marcadet: password required when
auto-requested /favicon.ico returns 401
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=12876

I got the same issue, there is no "/favicon.ico" in my html page and I got
a cycling
prompt
asking for credentials because the browser try to access to the root
directory.

In the Apache's error log I can see the following error :
[Mon Oct 05 10:04:01 2009] [error] [client ***.***.***.***] access to
/favicon.ico
failed,
reason: user 'foobar' does not meet requirements for user/valid-user to be
allowed
access

I need to protect my root directory from certains users but allow some
other to
access to sub
directory.

Is it possible that chrome doesn't try to load favicon.ico if there is no
favicon ?
This is a really urgent issue for me ?
Will this issue being fixed in the next Chrome Release ? (I use 3.0.195.24)
