Thakis, thank you so much for the detailed explanation of how the Mac side does things. I'll see if I can make this work for tips. Also, I was looking at the "Under the Hood" dialog on the Mac side, and "Change Font and Language Settings..." seems to be permanently disabled -- which makes sense if we use system prefs to localize.
