Comment #25 on issue 8947 by prasenjeet.dutta: Need a text-only Zoom http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=8947
I'm disappointed with the WONTFIX. The reason so many people ask for this feature is because it _really_ helps people whose vision is less than 20/20 (esp nearsighted folk like me). Pointing such people to the full-page zoom isn't helpful because that's not a good experience for them, it works very badly on many (most?) pages -- see the attached images on the original bug report to see how Google's own Gmail behaves. I can understand how developers might want their codebase kept 'clean' and uncluttered with odd features they can't see the need for. But the real world isn't neat and clean, users have conflicting but valid needs. Please reconsider. > Might be possible via an extension One of the reasons I like Chrome is that I don't have to load a bunch of extensions to make it usable *cough*Firefox*cough. Example: Chrome's "Close tabs to the right" and "Close tabs opened by this tab". Firefox doesn't have these, and calls to get them added will probably be met with "Use an extension!". Which is fine, but now people wanting more refined tab management will have a disappointing experience out- of-the-box. And in this case, people wanting a fairly basic accessibility feature will have to hunt around for an extension as well. Folks, if Chrome can have resizable textareas (now _that's_ really useful~) as standard, it can quite easily have text-only zoom. It's not a lot of effort to add in. Please reconsider the WONTFIX.
