Google Chrome registers a MIME type handler for audio/mpeg since it  
supports MP3.
Could explain the difference between trunk and branded builds.

As for having to restart all chrome instances to re-enable sound... that  
would make
sense.  All <audio> and <video> sound is controlled by the browser process.
Perhaps we're not catching some error Windows throws at us when using Remote
Desktop or restarting Windows Audio Service.

Next time it happens, could you see if Flash still plays sound?  They  
should use their
own audio code.

It does sound like there's a bug somewhere here.
