This slowdown appears to be caused by change 2999, which doesn't flatten
Cons strings
before externalizing them. Reverting this change took the time in debug
build from
about 40 seconds down to about 12 seconds. I will check the effect in
release build,
and compare to earlier versions of V8 as well, but it looks like 2999 needs
to be
modified. More data tomorrow, but we should start fixing 2999.
