I'm still getting this problem with 4.0.223. In fact I can reach 1Gb of memory in about a minute. Navigating away from the page, immediately restores memory usage to normal levels. (For what its worth, I noticed that the escalating memory is caused by global variables containing the getImageData() data. However don't take my word for it.)
