Just to mention: I'm experiencing the same problem since updating to 4.0.229.0 I tried it a couple of times in different docs. Interestingly if I open a doc and hit save without changes directly after opening or even after some minutes it says "Saving..." and the message disappears after 2 secs. As soon as I change something, only one char "Saving..." stays forever.
