Joe, I am not able to repro the problem with Chrome build 4.0.229.0
(Official Build
30554). We had this bug before. (http://crbug.com/11269)
Could you try below solution?

First, removed font caches:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
Then, restarted ATSServer:
atsutil server -shutdown
And confirmed it was running:
atsutil server -ping
----------------------------
If this doesn't solve your problem, we need to find something else.
