Comment #35 on issue 19587 by jpgarvey: Chromium Fails to call adobe to open PDFs files http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19587
Although things have probably changed (I'm running final release 3.0.195.27) I've seen this issue scattered all over the Chrome Support Boards and here in the Code Discussions as well. An immediate fix for external (that is non-embedded) viewing has been found for those with Adobe Reader. One simply goes into Reader Edit->Preferences->Internet and un- checks the "Display PDF in Web Browser." However, this fix does not seem to work to for everyone, and obviously doesn't fix the underlying issue, which seems to either be in the PDF Plug-In for Chrome (nppdf32.dll) or in Chrome itself. Some people also have reported success just uninstalling and reinstalling whatever version of Acrobat or Reader they were using, but this does not seem to fix the issue for all users. Finally, the last solution I've seen is copying the nppdf32.dll file out of the Acrobat Install Director (it's located in the "Browser" folder) and into the Google Chrome Plug In folder, which should be in your user's local app data folder. Some people reporter greater success with the last technique *after* uninstalling the PDF Plug In in Chrome itself, which they confirmed by checking about:plugins . One thing that seems to stand out is that most users report no difficulty opening PDF files in IE or Firefox, so the issue seems to be confined to Chrome. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
