Amanda, what's the scoop here? PDFs are opened by the QuickTime plugin at  
the
moment as far as I understand – will that plugin support more than the  
first page of a
pdf at some point? If not, should we blacklist it for pdf files? I agree  
that this is a
pretty horrid experience – will this go away at some point?

To the people who are coming to this bug looking for help: You can install
http://blog.arpitnext.com/gpdf in the meantime. It's an extension that lets  
pdf links
open with google's online pdf viewer, which shows all pages and also offers  
options
to download or print the pdf.
