I found one way to reproduce this error with a public test
site that requests basic auth.
1. Visit http://test.webdav.org/auth-basic/
2. Let the password dialog sit for a long time, so that
the server closes the connection.
3. Type username=user1 password=user1 and click the "Log in"
button.
I will debug this tomorrow.
