Just to clarify, *installing* user scripts is still supported. In fact it is supported much better than it was before. Now, you just click on a user script and it installs. No mussing about with copying files into the right directory. It is *creating* user scripts that is less well supported, at least for now. It is pretty easy to convert back and forth between a user script and an extension that only uses user script features, though.
