It works as expected on Ubuntu Karmic (gtk 2.18.3, chrome 4.0.245.1), so
I'm going
with the "bug in gtk" explanation. Given that there are easy workarounds
for users
with older gtk versions to delete multiple items (del key, alt-r), I'm
going to close
this rather than spend time trying to workaround the bug in older gtk
versions.
