I am also having this problem... with me it's a GMail issue.
A few weeks back GMail was having a server issue. Ever since, my GMail
thumbnail has
been named '502 Server Error' -- even though the server error is long, long
since
fixed.
I should note that this is happening for me on a Windows XP machine, Chrome
version
3.0.195.33, and that I tried clearing all browsing history to force it to
recreate
thumbnails. It recreated the gmail thumbnail with the old server error name.
Attaching an image of my new tab page set after clearing all browsing
history and
then going to GMail.
