Question:  Why is it "expected" that "self compiled Chromium builds should  
have
approximately the same performance" ?

Do you know that the self-compiled builds are doing exactly the compilation  
and
building steps as Google?  Are you using all the same options?  Are all the  
same
optimizations, tunings, debugging steps done?

I am trying to understand why you expect approximately the same  
performance, when I
don't necessarily have any such expectation.
