I tried the disable-byte-range-support command line switch and that seemed to fix the problem but occasionally when constantly clicking back then the PDF link again, Adobe Reader would darken the screen but the PDF would not load. Clicking back would fix this but very occasionally Chrome would lock up and not respond any more so I had to End Task in the Windows Task Manager. This showed that Chrome was busy but it never recovered no matter how long it was left.
