I tried the latest dev release, and the problem persisted.
I blew away my ~/.{gnome2,gconfd}*, restarted X and everything is working
fine now.
Accordingly, it would appear that the cause (at least on Xubuntu Hardy
64bit) is some
oddness in the gnome configuration. This bug may or may not be an issue
with chrome
itself.
