I have had the same issue for a number of months. I cant figure out what the circumstances are to recreate it, but it seems to be happening more frequently over recent weeks. It is always only one line of text, always from a drop down menu - possibly the last menu item in a list ( not sure about that). I have observed that the program supplying the menu item which becomes orphaned as being Lotus Notes and Skype. It is left displayed in the theme of Chrome, rather than the source application ie on my screen it is coloured Grey It cant be moved, or selected. No change to mouse pointer as it moves over it. If I use a screen copy facility ( I only have the one embedded in Lotus Sametime it does not show on the image. I dont know for sure that it is Chrome causing the problem, but there is a good likelihood that it only started happening after I installed Chrome. I dont have a dwm.exe task running, so cant test the workaround suggested above.
