I can pretty much confirm that it's an interface-related issue : the rickroll page of my friend plays (almost) smoothly : http://roidelapluie.be/firefox_35.html while the exact same page with exact same .ogg file, only with 'controls="true" ' added to the <video> tag : http://koolfy.webtito.be/firefox_35.html does the same loop at the middle of the video again and again. (I don't know if it's relevant, but the "youtube html5-ifier" extension for chromium still produces the gray interface.
