This is expected (if not confusing) behavior. Pinned tabs are intended to
behave like
applications. Applications should not be easily replaced, so that typing in
the omnibox
spawns a new tab.
I'm adding Glen to the cc list as he pushed for this behavior and can
better defend it
than I can.
