In Google Reader, the '/' key will move the cursor to the search box. Maybe Google Reader users are all considered to be geeks though since Reader defines 'k' and 'j' as the default shortcuts to go up and down through RSS items... The whole point about shortcuts not being discoverable is something I don't buy either. How is F1 a intuitive or discoverable shortcut for 'Help'? It is only intuitive because there is an unwritten (?) convention to use F1 for just that. Just like there is a convention to use '/' for search.
