I've noticed that the CPU usage problem seems to have become noticeably worse for me during the last few days on the trunk builds. Loading pages (ANY page) in a new tab is usually enough to cause brief CPU spikes up to 50-60%, and on pages like Facebook the spikes can hit 70-90%. In particular, Planet Mozilla (http://planet.mozilla.org/) causes Chromium to freeze at 100% CPU for 20 seconds or more.
