Same here (4.0.295.0~svn20100110r35882-0ubuntu1~ucd1~karmic 64bit).
I'm running Nvidia TwinView with two monitors. When closing Chromium
unmaximized it
starts up exactly as it was closed. Closing it full screen in my primary
monitor, it
also starts up as closed, maximized in the primary monitor. But when
closing it
maximized in the secondary monitor, it starts up in full screen and the
only way to
exit full screen mode is to hold down F11 (to make it flicker) and then try
grabbing
the windowbar and drag it somewhere else.
