I just encountered a site that uses this feature to attack the user. The site pretends to be a windows update / security application running on the user's local machine. It spoofs the look of windows XP and pops up windows that look like system prompts. When you attempt to close the window the page pops up another modal dialog box, and when you
click to close the modal dialog box it begins a download.
