I think we should just disable these menu items. The built-in menu items
aren't
removed (Cut, Copy, Paste, etc) so we should match the system and not
remove our menu
items, just disable them.
The Gnome HIG suggests the same:

"Do not remove command items from the menu when they are unavailable, make
them
insensitive instead. This allows the user to infer what functionality the
application
provides even if it is not currently available, and keeping the menu
structure static
makes it easier to memorize."
That said, I think it's ok to also just make our own popup menu with "Copy"
in it.
