Will userscripts/extensions be able to manage bookmarks? That could be
a way to have "buttons" as bookmarks, in the same way as Bookmarklets
already work with urls like javascript:extensionFunction(). Also
bookmark import/export features and self-updating bookmarks (stock
tickers, RSS?) could make use of access to bookmarks.

That gives more time to figure out how an API for native buttons could
be done. And then please don't allow big toolbars to be fixed and
unchangeable (like Yahoo toolbar). Instead, in button customization
mode, it should be easy to restore or gather all buttons from one
extension, in case the user gets lost among a horde of buttons. By the
