Hi Ben, I like your proposed views redesign. I have one suggestion that you may have already considered -- taking it a step further and creating a collection of widgets with standard names and interfaces that transparently resolve to native or views-based implementations based on the capabilities of the underlying platform. This is similar to how existing cross-platform frameworks like wxWidgets are designed, and it allows for additional cross-platform transparency. People could still access specific widget implementations directly if they so choose, but the result of "new views::CheckBox", for instance, would be a fully-functional check box with the same capabilities on all platforms.
