Note that if you think the implementation will be in the tab strip code and not in a more general place, you should look at the ongoing work on the third tab strip implementation (the files - tab_strip_2.cc\h and tab_2.cc\h) to see if it already resolves this situation or plans to resolve it. ☆PhistucK
