Mmm. My guess is that this is done with a Notification.Possibly inside WebKit, or through WebKit glue. I do not know the code so well, I just know that it is called "status_bubble" and thought it would help. :)
Generally, there is a notification service. You should look for either "NOTIFICATION" in the status bubble code, or status bubble mentioning (class names) in the notification_service (or something like this) code. Once you find the related notification, in case you still cannot find the relation to the actual message you are looking for, search for the name of one of the notifications that concern the status bubble (uppercase letters, numbers and underscores) in the whole code.
