Ahoy, I am planning on maintaining chromium for a specific Linux distro, and I am wondering if there is currently a mechanism for setting global preferences. Specifically, I would like to set the default homepage and default bookmarks for all users on the system. I am sure there are other maintainers and customers who have different needs. Firefox (as an example) has a preferences system[1] that makes setting any preference (from about:config) fairly easy. There is a bug to add something similar[2], but its marked as WontFix, so maybe Chromium has a system for doing something similar? If not, is there something in the works? I would be interested in getting involved.
I did some searching and it looks like there has been some talk about a configuration and preferences APIs, but I don't know what information is up-to-date and relevant. I'm just getting involved with Chromium, so sorry for the naive question, especially if there is already information about this somewhere.
