In Opera, Ctrl+Z combination actually undo every action you take. for example, if you close a tab and then make change in a text box in another tab, the Ctrl+Z combination will first revert the changes made to the text box and later the closed tab will be restored. In Opera too, the correct key combination for restoring closed tab is Ctrl+Shift+Tab. In Firefox too it is the same key combination. So, I guess Chrome can simply stick on to the same shortcut.
