I have this habit, that I guess in Chrome is not good. I click to download something and when I see the process was not interrupted, I close the tab. Now, no threads own my download process and I have no way to see how it's going short of going to the downloads folder and watching the size attribute go up as I mouse over it.
When you close a tab the owns a download (and this should be configurable), Chrome should either send it to the tab it sends you, or to a downloads tab.
