I'm having the same problem. At first for some reason neither my
Chrome or Firefox would connect to the web. I reinstalled Firefox and
that fixed that problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, no
luck. I tried uninstalling and deleting all the Chrome settings under /
Documents and Settings/[user]/Local Settings/Application Data/Google/
Chrome/ with still no luck.

Update: I used to run Zonealarm firewall and AVG virus scanner. I
haven't been running them lately for performance. I just turned both
of them back on and boom, it works fine now. No idea why it wouldn't
work without them running. I'm gonna test rebooting and trying each
program individually but I'm gonna bet it has something to do with
Zonealarm and Chrome still looking for it after I turned it off.
