I'm running both the latest "Dev Channel" release of Chrome and the
latest, "passed all the tests" version of Chromium and I encounter the
same thing when I first set the Task bar to "Auto-hide" and then bring
up Chrome or Chromium in a maximized window. However, if I close
Chrome/Chromium while the Task bar is still in "Auto-hide" and restart
either one in a maximized window again, then the "Auto-hide" works fine
after that. It's only when Chrome/Chromium is first started right after
the Task bar is set to "Auto-hide" that the problem occurs.

Try restarting the browser while the Task bar is still set to
"Auto-hide" and see if that works.

Hope this helps.
