It's good to be able to use tabs instead of having new windows. But I would think having multiple sub-windows in a tabbed window would be great also. This way instead of resizing the parent window and opening a new window, one can have a tab with the capability of displaying multiple windows previewing other websites in the same window. This way you are able to view many web-pages at the same time. This is also beneficial when you need to minimize a browser window, you only have to minimise one window because these sub-windows are embedded into the tab window. Also instead of changing a whole window or tab for a web page, the content of the currently active sub-window can be changed by using the parent address bar. Sub windows can also be created into tabs and/or new windows if required.
Pros: - Multiple web-page viewing at the same time without having to change windows or tabs. - Partial separation of sub-windows allows a user to change the content of an active window without affecting the content shown in other windows. - By using sub-windows you minimise the space wastage that you would have if you created a new window (not tab) for each page. (Larger viewable area, due to all sub-windows being within the same larger parent window and/or tab) why have a new search bar for each new window wasting precious viewing area when you can have each window changed by using one common parent search bar? Cons: - Minimises viewable area for these sub-windows. (not too much of a problem for people with large monitors (and high resolutions) - May confuse users which window is the active one. - A limit of how many sub-windows can be on screen at any one time would need to be set.
