I have a couple of questions...
What is your version of Chrome? (You can tell by looking at the About box).
Also, if you open regedit and browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Update\ClientState\{8A69D345-D564-463C-AFF1-A69D9E530F96}
What does the 'ap' value contain?
