Hmmm. That never worked for me, that is changing the focus. Since using newer Chromium builds I no longer have this issue...see above (fixed 1/24/09). I think this was not a "design" but rather a "bug" based on the info provided in the changelog or the nightly update that corrected this. I could be dead wrong and often am :)
