You can add a STAR to the following issues to be notified of updates: 2. New Tab Options/Customization: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1024
3. Skins: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=4463 Regarding "Apps" like weather, news, and favourite websites, I don't think the best idea is to build such apps directly into Chrome. Chrome is still just a browser (or more grandly "application platform"). We can use Chrome to go to many websites/run may web apps, but I don't think the apps should be part of Chrome. And regarding weather, news, and favourite website apps, Google already provides all that from your iGoogle page.
