Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I have been wondering about the feasibility of an ambitious extension to Chrome. The biggest problem with Windows, as I see it, is it's lack of security. Given that so much of the effort of Chrome is to thoroughly sandbox processes, then could this sandboxing be extended to sandboxing local apps as well? Chrome could display a graphical file view of local and remote apps that could be run as sandboxed processes. Many applications could fit in this paradigm. Chrome could develop into a preferred interface/environment for running applications safely across multiple OSs.
