Probably better to expose some sort of control to this via the
extension system.
I do agree though, it is incredibly annoying when some pages play
sounds when i'm listening / watching something else.

Might require some reworking of a lot of code though, or maybe not,
depends how Chromium manages sound really.
In fact, it would probably be easier on Chromium simply due to the
multi-process structure.

Also, a nicer method, stemming from the idea LZW mentioned would be to
have an audio indicator show up on a tab if it is processing audio.
If it is, you can click it to disable the audio.
But again, not sure if modifying tabs titlebars will be added to the
extensions APIs or not. (or generally the source)
It would still be a nice thing to see added, either directly or
through extensions.

Audio is just one of those things that can travel outside the realms
of its own page, even if it isn't active, and that is (IMO) a bad
thing overall since you could end up with a mish-mash of audio if you
browse a lot of sites with audio on them. (already having bad memories
coming back of Cotten-eyed Joe on 7-10 tabs)
