Maybe they have held off for a while because of the Windows 7 launch. I would be very interested in such a product, but at the same time very sceptical as Linux is all about choice.
Google will need to invest a massive amount into development of an O/S to even come close to the quality of other leading distros. -----Original Message----- From: garbeam [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, 20 November 2009 9:03 PM To: Chromium-discuss Subject: [chromium-discuss] Chromium OS - where is the promised new window system Hi there, back in July Chrome OS was announced at http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html A quote: "Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel." I had high expectations because of that, but what did we find? X ;( http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chromiumos-design-docs/software-archit ecture So that means that I can bury my hope for a decent window system on Linux that doesn't contain all the legacy of the past 30 years? Or are there plans to replace the current X dependency with the "new windowing system". Potentially the person who wrote the blog entry back in July didn't know the difference between a window manager and a window system... oh well...
