With Firefox v3.5.3, when I type in "Batman Begins imdb" into either
the address bar or the Firefox search box I get the same page, a Google
search of Batman Begins with the IMDB site appearing at the top.

Have you tried typing this into the Chrome address bar...

  imdb <tab> batman begins <enter>

... ?
