Basically, I am filtering unknown sites by the aspect whether they depend on flash by design and if they do, then I decide against using them. The only exception was youtube. But since I rarely use youtube it took me some time to run into the problem that you need to manually put Adobe's plugin into Chromium's plugin directory, to notice later, that we have here the problem also with 64bit versus 32bit libraries.
With Google's Gears the general consensus was, that we better wait till those features are implemented in modern technologies like html5 and I am wondering if there is a similar strategy in the works for youtube and the media formats that are used there.
