I don't know about you all, and it might be because I spent too much
time with Greasemonkey scripts before, but I am really struggling with
the restrictions on cross-origin XHR in content scripts.

So I was quite relieved to see Roman's workaround using a proxy
concept to link a background page executing the XHR part with the
content script: http://gist.github.com/192538

Unfortunately I keep getting the following error with the workaround:

Uncaught TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method 'stringify'
chrome://devtools/chrome/RendererExtensionBindings

... which seems to point more to JSON stringify than XHR.

Anyone got a similar issue with the workaround and maybe an
explanation and fix to it?

Yata.
