Dear Rosie, Diana did kill herself (suicide) and she experienced intermittent deep depressive episodes throughout her life. ( I presume the 'him' you are referring to is Winston Churchill and his "Black Dog".) It is a family trait (depression) that is traceable back to the First Duke of Marlborough. Winston's father, Lord Randolph Churchill, had a variety of Bipolar Disorder, that accounts for much of his irascible and mercurial temperament.
