A concluding sentence in the Washington Times article states: "Dissenting
with honesty, ferocity and courage is one of Churchill's lessons to us
today." I think that 'ferocity' wrongly characterizes Churchill's approach
to public debate, and I think that 'passion' is a better substitute.
Churchill would have been put off by ferocity both in himself and in others,
and winning an argument through ferocity was not his style. I would also
change 'courage' to 'moral courage'. In addition, I don't think that
Churchill would have been comfortable taking part in the ferocious, sophist
spectacles that often pass for political dissent today.

This article gives food for thought in today's problems of terrorism.
Let's not conjecture what Winston would do, but what lessons of his past
actions would be a guide for today's leaders.
