Alas,

When this letter was written the British were indeed still wallowing in the 
mire!  Winston had yet to arrive.  If anyone understood the meaning of "a good 
stiff grog" it was the old Bulldog himself!!

The Massachusetts Historical Society is displaying a collection of Presidential 
Letters. One of which may be of interest to Churchillians.
 
The 15-Feb-1939 FDR letter states "what the British need today is a good stiff 
grog."
 
Perhaps his desire was fullfilled when WSC became PM.
